WASHINGTON, D.C. Jan. 4 (DPI) – A day after Trump called on Georgia’s Secretary of State to “recalculate” November’s presidential vote, a growing number of Republicans are expressing their regrets about supporting the outgoing president.
Trump appears to have some GOP loyalists in the US Senate, who plan to contest the certified results of the Electoral College this week. But most observers agree that such maneuvers won’t change the outcome of Joe Biden’s election as president.
Now pundits and everyday citizens alike are voicing their alarm over Trump’s continued attempts to subvert the democratic process, and its long-term impact on the psyche of the country.
The most popular comment attached to Wall Street Journal columnist Gerald Seib’s piece today, headlined “In Trump’s Final Days, Lines are Drawn for a Republican Civil War.”
I am a registered independent, but over the years, I have grown to become a solidly conservative voter. I defended Trump in the comments section of this Journal, many times. Despite his often reckless and divisive behavior, I agreed with many (most) of his policies, so he had my support.
That has changed. I have evolved from staunch supporter, to concerned and discouraged, to full acknowledgment that I was wrong about him. He is too divisive, reckless, inconsistent, incoherent and dangerously incompetent. He has proven himself to be completely unfit for office.
He is now moving past ‘unfit for office’ and into the territory of ‘dangerous to the Republic’. In these last few days of his presidency, I hope he is being watched closely and I hope those that surround him remember that their loyalty is to the Nation and the Constitution, not to Trump.
I’ve come to despise the GOP ‘Trump loyalists’ that refuse to leave his side. Their blind loyalty to him is un-American and pathetic.Sad that the GOP could be brought to its knees by a cartoonish reality-tv performer who doesn’t care a whit about anyone but himself, to speak nothing of actual conservative principles. A far cry from the party of Lincoln. Perhaps its time has come.
Trump’s mental decline is becoming more and more evident each day we get closer to the inauguration. He is , I believe , a danger to the country. Forget the party . If Trump is now the head of the Republican Party then I want no part of it. Somebody needs to get hold of this man and take away what powers he still may have.
