WASHINGTON, D.C. Sept. 24 (DPI) – With 40 days to Nov. 3 Trump is suggesting he’ll try to stay in power regardless of the vote’s outcome, which prompted rebuttals across the political spectrum that a “peaceful transition of power” will take place in January 2021.
Readers expressed dismay that Trump would try to de-legitimize the election process before it’s even taken place. Many of the most popular comments on usually supportive WSJ.com condemned Trump for his remarks. “Trump loses me entirely on this,” wrote one poster in the second-most popular comment.

So distasteful. Destructive for our country.
Fits with Trump’s approach to politics, power, and life in general.
Disgusting. Worst president in the history of the US.I’m sorry but claiming the election will be fraudulent is ridiculous. This is a claim without any basis in fact. Trump loses me entirely on this. If you lose you lose. And that means you leave. This isn’t Venezuela.
Here’s what the president said when asked if there would be a peaceful transition of power: “Get rid of the ballots and there won’t be a transition of power. There will be a continuation of power.”
In this many words, the president is saying he won’t accept the election results and will hold onto power however the election goes. This is a direct threat to our country, and I can’t understand why it’s not causing more outcry.
Whatever side of the political aisle you’re on, are you OK with this? For 220 years, our election process has depended on candidates willing to accept the results, and presidents walking away when they lose, not threatening a coup. Will Republicans continue our traditions this year?
