WASHINGTON, D.C. Mar. 27 (DPI) – Stormy Daniels showed confidence and poise in her “60 Minutes” interview with Anderson Cooper Sunday, but the former porn star produced no information that could immediately lead to criminal charges against Trump.
Readers, though, almost uniformly agreed that she came across as “more believable, more intelligent, and more sympathetic” than Trump, as the most popular comment on NYTimes. com declared yesterday.
The full comment received more than 3,600 recommendations: “What can we say about the state of our country when an adult film star sounds more believable, more intelligent, and is more sympathetic than the president of the United States?”
As reported, Daniels received a $130,000 payment from an LLC set up by one of Trump’s lawyers in October 2016, less than two weeks before the election. The payment, according to various news outlets, was intended to keep Daniels from publicly disclosing a single sexual encounter in 2006. She also apparently signed a non-disclosure agreement in exchange for the payment.
She said in the interview that one of Trump’s lawyers, Michael Cohen, threatened her when it became clear that Daniels was likely to violate the agreement. Cohen denies that charge.
Much of the “60 Minutes” coverage centered on whether the payment to Daniels might be construed as an undisclosed campaign contribution, and one that, because of its sheer size, violated election laws.
But – initially at least – that doesn’t seem likely to bring down this president, who of course is the focus of an investigation by Robert Mueller, now in its ninth month.
Readers, meanwhile, had no problem believing that Daniels was likely threatened by Trump’s people. Among the most popular comments.
Exaggeration, outright lying, coercion, and now physical threats… From what I’ve seen, I believe it. Perhaps it’s time for Trump to show some courage and resign.
So while his new wife is taking care of their infant son, Trump is at a golf tournament having sex with a porn star. Then he sends “some guy” to threaten her and her infant daughter so she won’t talk about it. What a small man.
Do I believe that Cohen threatened her – absolutely.
