Law School Enrollment Down 11%; Lowest in 36 Years

WASHINGTON, D.C. Dec. 17 (DPI) – First-year enrollment in the nation’s law schools declined 11% over the previous year, the third straight year of contraction. According to the American Bar Association 39,675 full-time and part-time students enrolled in law school, nearly 5,000 fewer than in 2012, a continuing reflection of weakening demand for lawyers in the marketplace.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the decline Tuesday. “This fall, approximately two-thirds of the 202 U.S. law schools accredited by the ABA reported declines in first-year enrollment,” according to The Journal. “That slide exceeded 10% at 81 law schools, though the ABA has declined to say which ones.
