Abortion Pill Still Available In 37 States as Forces of an Outright Prohibition Abate

WASHINGTON, D.C. Aug. 4 (DPI) – A year after the US Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade and sent the once-settled matter of abortion rights back to the states, only 15 states today maintain outright bans on abortion, according to review by USAFacts.com. The other 35 have kept abortion rights of some kind in place, and they continue to permit the use of the abortion pill Mifepristone.

The latest political winds seeking a ban on abortion have continued to abate.

The accompanying map by USAFacts.com illustrates the stark divide among regions: many states in the deep South have outlawed abortion following votes in their legislatures. A popular vote, such the one that led to the protection of abortion rights in Kansas in late 2022, hasn’t taken place yet in those states.

Heading into the 2024 national election season, Republicans are well aware that they will lose substantial numbers of moderate conservatives and independents if they place opposition to abortion front and center of their platform, whoever the GOP presidential candidate.
