NEW YORK, NY June 14 (DPI) – Today’s Wall Street Journal op-ed staff laid another mystifying egg as it suggested Donald Trump should not be charged with holding on to top-secret documents because we’re headed into an election season, and he’s the GOP front runner.
It’s mystifying because the WSJ op-ed page, credible and authoritative on so many of today’s issues, is no longer under any pressure to support Trump, at least from WSJ owner Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch, who also owns Fox News, has shown virtually no support for Trump since the Jan. 6, 2021, mob attack on Capitol Hill.
Yet the WSJ Op-Ed page persists:
“We’re on record as believing that Attorney General Merrick Garland’s indictment of Mr. Trump is a misguided use of prosecutorial power that could have destructive consequences,” The WSJ Op-Ed editors wrote. “It intervenes in a presidential election campaign, unleashing political furies that are impossible to predict. It keeps Mr. Trump the dominant issue of the presidential campaign, denying the country the larger debate the public deserves.”
Readers generated more than 3600 comments as of this afternoon, most of them expressing dismay that the WSJ op-ed page, while no longer exactly supporting Trump, averred that he shouldn’t be prosecuted. The Top comments:
I’m not looking forward to Trump dragging the country through the dirt – again. I want a GOP candidate I can vote for in 2024. Trump isn’t it.
I’m a political moderate who is desperate for a 2024 alternative to Joe Biden. Why on earth are most Republicans favoring Donald Trump as their candidate? Even if you like his policies (and I liked some of them), I cannot see how you could think this man is fit for elected office. As this good article underscores, he is reckless and an actual danger to our democracy. I’ll vote for anyone over Joe Biden—except Trump.
We’re spending all this time talking about Trump and his latest drama, instead of talking about the problems in America that need the attention of principled, disciplined conservatives. This guy sucks all the air out of the room, grabs the spotlight, and drags the country through this completely unnecessary drama. This is what he does. Totally self- inflicted. He is the most selfish, self absorbed person I have ever seen. I’ve gotten to the point that I actively challenge my Republican friends for continuing to support this clown because I strongly doubt the intelligence and character of anyone that still defends him and actually believes he’s the right man to lead America. This guy is a proven liar and extreme narcissist, an unstable, reckless, irresponsible clown. I wouldn’t want him to lead my HOA, much less our nation. I lose all respect for politicians that continue making excuses for this fool. We have so many better options.
“The document indictment is misguided”
Don’t think so. If a federal worker or contractor did the same thing, they’d be in shackles. If DOJ has sufficient evidence to prove this in court, Trump should pay the same price as any other citizen with access to classified.EB says:
Incredibly, the indictment says he did this while he knew he was being tape-recorded: “Mr. Trump: Secret. This is secret information. Look, look at this. You attack, and—”
Actually, I found it wholly credible. And in line with his demonstrated character.Walking back the last piece? What a disaster that was. Defenses of Trump will not age well.
