Even With Legal Challenges and Re-Counts, Trump Can’t Subvert A Resilient System

WASHINGTON, D.C. Nov. 5 (DPI) – Barring historic surprises, Joe Biden is within days or even hours of securing the presidency, as the election math in four key battleground states – Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Georgia – is tilting in his favor.

The upshot, of course, is that Donald Trump, who won a stunning election upset in 2016, will be a one-term president. And while the dust hasn’t settled two days after this election, the likelihood of an outright subversion of state-by-state election results is nearly impossible, pundits across the political spectrum are saying.

Much of that resistance is embedded in American culture: Our citizenry loves sports and the noble contests that fill our television screens almost every evening. Believing in the fairness of hard-fought competitions, Americans of all stripes simply don’t like a cheater.

As such, Trump’s attempts to discredit and subvert the legitimacy of the states’ presidential election processes could seriously backfire on him – no matter how divided the nation may be. He’s likely to lose in the courts – whoever appointed the judges hearing such complaints – and any attempts at election theft will hurt any influence he may have after he leaves the White House.

A quiet but significant factor in the days ahead may be Vice President Mike Pence, whose following among conservative evangelicals represents a huge part of Trump’s base. Pence could resign as Vice President if Trump descends deeper into disinformation and lies in the days ahead, which would erode Trump’s base further.

Overall, though, Tuesday’s results are already a clear victory for non-Trump Republicans, as the GOP fared much better than expected: The Republications may still control the Senate, and Democrats lost seats in the House of Representatives.
