WASHINGTON, D.C. Mar. 1 (DPI) – Donald Trump pulled another of his unpredictable policy stunts this week, doing almost a 180 on gun control restrictions in the wake of the Florida school shooting. Most reports emphasized that Trump appeared to be pandering to television cameras, and not engaging in serious discussion or debate.
But readers on nytimes.com, with remarkable unanimity, responded not simply with skepticism but a conviction that anything out of his mouth was unreliable. “It’s a kind of performance art, ya gotta love it,” wrote one reader. “Oh wait, it’s our government, and people’s lives are at stake, and there’s a clown in charge…”
More than 2,000 posts responded to the report carrying the headline “Trump Stuns Lawmakers With Seeming Embrace of Comprehensive Gun Control,” and none of the other top-recommended reader comments reflected a shred of faith that Trump was capable to sticking to his new position.

He will deny it tomorrow. Ask the Dreamers.
While I applaud the idea, I’m skeptical of most things that Trump embraces. He is clearly trying to seize the limelight on this contentious issue, which is totally within character for a politician who craves being seen as in charge, even if he’s not. But it would also be totally in character for him to change his mind as the debate proceeds. We shall see if A) the Republicans in Congress go along, and B) Trump stays consistent.
How long will it be before Trump tweets the exact opposite of what he just said? I give it a day.
He’ll change his mind as soon as fox and friends critiques him. Trump is spineless and believes in nothing.
