Free Plugs Dept.: A Viral Rage That’s Welcome – and Powerful – Advertising

RESTON, VA Nov. 5 (DPI) — The marketing meetings at The Coca-Cola Company are likely upbeat this week as an entertaining photo of a high-school school English exam – conveniently plugging Sprite — has gone viral.

This image of a one-page English exam, in which the student, convinced the teacher isn’t bothering to read his essay, veers the narrative away from Shakespeare and to idle banter, in the process receiving an A- and a “Nice Job” from the teacher. The post has received nearly half a million “likes” on Facebook.

The image – named “Some Teachers Don’t Even Care Anymore” – of the student’s exam may well be authentic – or maybe not.  Like some things on the Internet, it’s hard to tell.  But the engaging and amusing message gives Coca-Cola (what is likely) a free and valuable plug for one of its products, while also putting down a competing product, Sierra Mist.
