McLEAN, VA Dec. 14 (DPI) – USA Today newspaper, of all publications, broke from its don’t-offend-anyone moorings yesterday, and offered up a powerfully worded editorial declaring that Donald Trump is “is unfit to clean toilets in Obama’s presidential library or to shine George W. Bush’s shoes.”  The editorial triggered thousands of supportive reader comments, and prompted the rest of the mainstream press to report on it, a very rare act of peer recognition.

The Washington Post among others reported on the editorial and its timely impact, and more than 2,300 reader comments showed up on its site in less than 24 hours.  Conservative broadcaster Lou Dobbs criticized the editorial as “crass.”

Trump’s embarrassing conduct may be obvious for some time, but his tweets this week viciously attacking New York Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand really went to a new level. Gillibrand, who called on Trump to resign for his record of admitted sexual aggression, was smeared in a Trump tweet as a woman who would “do anything” for fundraising support. USA Today reacted in the same way that most people did, but its words were especially pointed:

A president who’d all but call a senator a whore is unfit to clean toilets in Obama’s presidential library or to shine George W. Bush’s shoes. With his latest tweet, clearly implying that a United States senator would trade sexual favors for campaign cash, President Trump has shown he is not fit for office. Rock bottom is no impediment for a president who can always find room for a new low.

The Washington Post picked up on the USA Today editorial, and The Post’s most popular reader comments were completely on board:

I consider myself non-partisan, especially in regards to US politics, but how anyone cannot see how grossly unfit Trump is for the Oval Office, is beyond me. He is a petty, vindictive, ignorant, vile, demeaning, and just down right stupid liar. He does not possess one redeeming quality.

When I saw the takeaway portion of this on one of the political shows last night (the toilet comment and some other parts) I said an out loud “WOW!!!!!!!!!!” And let us be clear, the president was absolutely calling the jr. senator from NY a whore. There is little doubt about that.
While rather strong, it says something that Donald Trump has, in less than one year in office, drawn this strong a rebuke from USA Today.
All I can say is “WOW!!!!!!!!!!!”

The consensus though is that Trump, barring a serious health problem, will not resign of his own accord. “We could have 7 more years of this guy,” wrote one poster.
