Crazy or Stupid? “Second Term” Talk Raises Questions About Pompeo’s Belief In Rule of Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. Nov. 14 (DPI) – Donald Trump was finally showing signs this week of conceding on this little matter of the presidential election. But his West Point graduate Secretary of State – Mike Pompeo – was making declarations about a Trump second term, another head-scratcher in this age of unprecedented behavior by our nation’s leaders.

It’s a little easier to dismiss Lindsey Graham’s, Mitch McConnell’s and Mike McCarthy’s posturing on a Trump’s challenge of the Nov. 3 election results – they, after all, have been safely re-elected and can pander to the Trump base whatever the outcome.

But the remarks of the sitting Secretary of State are something else altogether, as they send signals to the world of confusion, disarray and instability. It’s irresponsible behavior on a par with Trump’s, and since Pompeo has long had presidential ambitions, it’s also surprising. After all, any president must campaign and get elected – the very process that Pompeo is refusing to recognize now.

To a remarkable degree readers across the spectrum have moved on. Only a handful of readers chose to bother commenting on Pompeo’s remarks. Only 25 comments accompanied an AP report in The Washington Post that the Secretary of State was summarily rejecting the election results.

Among the most popular comments, with only four recommendations:

First official declaration of the coup against the US government and US Constitution.

Well, I am not surprised by Pompeo’s response.
He should not have answered any question about the election.
In his role as SecState, he should not have campaigned for Trump.
He & his cronies are arrogant & do not respect the Constitution.
