WASHINGTON, D.C. May 1 (DPI) – The New York Times published a series of questions that Robert Mueller plans to put to Trump, and many of the thousands of reader comments focused less on the substance of the questions and more on who leaked them, and whether doing so helped Mueller’s yearlong probe. More than 2,700 comments hit NYTimes.com today, 2,300 more on WSJ.com and 6,200 were posted on the un-moderated.
Most popular comment on WashingtonPost.com today: “It was reported this morning that the questions were leaked by Trump’s legal team.” Second most popular: “Highly unlikely the leak came from Team Mueller. I believe the leak came from Trump’s lawyers, and done so at the direction of the Liar-in-Chief himself. The Orange Idiot can keep up the incessant rants about witch hunts and hoaxes, but the reality is this investigation gets closer to Donnie every day.”
An oft-mentioned suspect as the course of the leaks? Rudolph Giuliani, who recently joined Trump’s defense team. The third most-popular post on NYTimes.com: “Interesting that this is leaked shortly after Giuliani joined Trump’s defense and met with the Mueller team. I’d guess he might be the source, since the special counsel’s team does not leak.”
Readers seemed to care little about the substance of the questions – many focused on possible obstruction by the president in the Russia probe – and rather speculated on the motivations of the leaker, and the source.
Many readers also criticized the Times for publishing the leaked questions. Among the most popular comments:
This is an extremely troubling leak and I think the NYTimes is irresponsible for publishing the questions, no matter how well-vetted the source(s). It undercuts the most important investigation this country has ever witnessed. WHO leaked them and WHY?
Seriously, Mueller has been running a tight ship for good reason. For as much as I’m hungry for every little detail about the investigation, there are some things that shouldn’t be made public unless absolutely necessary. Like, the questions that Mueller would like to ask Trump.Highly unlikely the leak came from Team Mueller. I believe the leak came from Trump’s lawyers, and done so at the direction of the Liar-in-Chief himself. The Orange Idiot can keep up the incessant rants about witch hunts and hoaxes, but the reality is this investigation gets closer to Donnie everyday.
The bottom line is this: Russia isn’t about communism or Stalinism, it is about billionaires running things from the shadows and behaving like international global Pharaohs.
That is exactly what Trump is about, and those billionaires, along with many super rich in this country, are the barbarians inside the gates of many nations, including America. Business as usual for Trump and Putin and the Russian oligarchs isn’t collusion with them, it is their business plan.
They are about a manifest destiny of the rich to align through their companies and rule the lives of the rest of us. Mueller has a terribly important job, and he may not be able to defeat those barbarians, since they have bought off much of America’s Congress.
I fear for my country. These are nightmarish times.
