WASHINGTON, D.C. April 10 (DPI) – Readers across the political spectrum recognized the latest turn in the Mueller probe – raiding the offices of Trump’s personal lawyer – as the greatest legal threat yet to Trump and his presidency.
The most popular comments on NYTimes.com this morning – and the top comment, with 6800 recommendations – seemed to suggest that the Mueller probe, by focusing now on the Stormy Daniels payoffs, may finally get the goods on Trump:
As a lawyer of 35 years, this is one of the most significant developments in the Mueller investigation. It is extraordinarily hard to convince a judge, who is a former lawyer himself or herself, to pierce the attorney/client privilege and work product doctrine to issue a subpoena and seize material subject to those sacred protections. The judge must be convinced that Cohen’s records will demonstrate substantial criminal activity. This may be “Black Monday” for Donald Trump.
Only in Trump World does The Donald’s lawyer need a lawyer.
When the history of this period is written, Robert Mueller will go down as an American Hero, whose integrity, fearlessness and commitment to the Rule of law will serve as an example to us all.
Knowing that there was enough evidence to obtain a search warrant is indeed news. It will be very interesting to learn what comes of this.
What I am not looking forward to are the many apologists who will rant against this action. They’ll call it Mueller overstepping. They’ll comment it has nothing to do with Russia. They’ll repeat that there’s no proof of collusion. I’m sure there will be many other deflections, diversions, falsehoods, and other nonsense.
This is simple.
A) Mueller uncovered evidence of a possible crime.
B) He handed that over to the regular prosecutor based on where the crime was committed and who the suspect is.
C) That prosecutor was able to obtain a search warrant and executed it.
It’s not more complex than that. Mueller may leverage any prosecution falling from this to obtain information from Cohen or not. Whatever Cohen is suspected of is no longer Mueller’s problem though. Now it’s the US-Attorney in Manhattan’s job.
Good hunting! If a porn star winds up being the one to take Trump down, it will prove to me that karma actually exists in the absence of other forms of justice.
